Visit Silver
Should I stay in Alexandria or Silver Springs when visiting Washington DC?
I am thinking either the Crowne Plaza in Silver Springs or the Holiday Inn in Old Town Alexandria? Which one people? Help me OUT!
Also an option the Crowne Plaza in Alexandria – Spelling correction – Silver Spring(w/o the s)
I love to shill for Old Town. I wouldn’t stay in SS on a bet! We’ve got far too much to offer than Silver Spring. If you can get a good deal, I suggest staying at the new Klimpton, Hotel Monaco (old Holiday Inn) at 400 King Street.
The Metro is exactly one mile from the waterfront to the metro and the Monaco has a shuttle. Furthermore, we now have a free trolley that operates from 10-10pm from the Metro down King Street to the waterfront. We have two theater (drama) stages (Little Theater of Old Town & Metro Stage). We also have the renovated Movie house.
As for dining, Old Town has ditched the old pub grub for grown up food. The Monaco is attached to Jackson 20 and on the same block as Restaurant Eve one of several owned by Cathal Armstrong, winner of Best New Chef of 2006. Also, we have Farrah Olivia by Morou (Iron Chef). We have everything from Blue Crabs to Etheopian. After gorging on dinner, be sure to get up early and jog the bike path along the Potomac.
With the recent opening of National Harbor, across the Potomac in PG County, you can now take a shuttle boat to and from the Gaylord hotel.
Our Farmer’s Market is on Saturday mornings from 6am – 11am. Don’t let the name fool you, our Farmer’s Market is more social and artistic than about veggies and fruits. Get some coffee from our own anti-starbucks, Misha’s. Take in a ghost tour of old town! Or just sit out on a nice evening and watch the tourists.
I hope this has enticed you into visiting our little town. If you spy two chocolate cocker spaniels and their owner’s watching the tourists go by, stop and say hi!
