These days, everything is tied to the web. Gone are the days of telnet and dial-up. No longer is web-usage reserved for those who could tell the difference between an NTFS and FAT filesystem. Today, everybody uses the web and it has developed into a community full of buyers and sellers. Many of the older people are ignorant of the power of the web. Conversely, the younger generations who do appreciate its power, have no idea how to utilize such. It cannot be stressed enough just how important an understanding of such is in order to be able to fully harness the potential therein.
One of the technologies on the internet that have great potential for the real estate market is social networking. In a nutshell, social networking allows people to get together online and share things with one another. Because of the sheer scope of the web, where one person might share something with five or six close friends just a decade ago, he is now able to share that same thing with five or six hundred acquaintances. This is gold for the real estate agent, as, should he perform well, his past clients will be able to tell hundreds about his services.
Similarly, as many people first wish to know about an agent before acquiring his services, it used to be that you would only get advice about a certain agent if your friends or family knew of him. Today, an agent will, more often than not, have his own personal web space where potential clients can learn more about the services offered and the quality of the agent before going into any agreement. Agents who don’t have such however, are limited in that many will simply prefer to procure the services of other agents who do have such information on the web.
Another benefit of the web that cannot be stressed enough is that of communication. It is a very simple matter to fire up one’s mail client and send off an email and similarly simple to open one’s mail client to check for any new messages. Because of this, communication has gotten much simpler. A real estate agent should be able to keep in constant touch with his clients whether on the go or at the office. Email and instant messaging are both ways of doing such and are tools just as important to the modern real estate agent as the simple pen and paper.
In closing, it should be restated that technology is a vital tool that must be utilized in order to reap all possible benefits. In the real estate market, communication is key, and if nothing else, the web excels at communication and by that same token, getting in touch with potential clients.
