Top 5 Spanish Lessons: Your passport to an exciting world!
In these All About Spanish Lessons, a quick run down about the Spanish language will be given.
Spanish is a Romance language, which means it developed from Latin, as did French, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, and other languages in countries that were part of the Latin-speaking part of Roman Empire.
In Spain and in some Spanish speaking countries in South America, the language is referred to as castellano, which precisely references the Castille region of Spain where this language first arose. The term castellano is useful in distinguishing it from the other regional Spanish languages, which are Catalan, Basque, and Gallician. They’re all Spanish languages, but castellano is the one that people are usually referring to when they say espanol. In many other countries, people refer to the language as espanol.
The most populous Spanish-speaking countries are
- Mexico, with more than eighty-five million speakers,
- Colombia, with more than forty million speakers,
- Argentina, with more than thirty-five million speakers,
- The United States, with more than thirty-one million Spanish speakers, making it the fourth-largest country with a Spanish-speaking population, and
- Spain, where it all started, with more than thirty million speakers.
Having its roots in Latin and being one of the Romance languages, Spanish was born in Spain, from where Spanish colonials spread it to the western hemisphere, and to this day, remains the official language of the majority of Central and South America, and the Caribbean. Though you may have noticed that nowadays people everywhere are interested in learningSpanish.
The most popular type of Spanish is the “Castellano” type (originating from the Castille region of Spain), and is usually the Espanol we are mostly familiar with.
Today, Espanol keeps becoming more popular as a language for business, tourism, and travel. That is because Spanish is the native language of about 350 million people worldwide!
However, business aside, Spanish is a great language to learn if you want to experience all the delicious cuisines and rich culture that Spanish speaking countries can offer. That’s why taking Spanish lessons is one of the most popular pasttimes around!
And most of all, don’t be shy! Generally speaking, Spanish speakers are very glad to help those who want to learn, and will gladly open the doors to their friendship if you just give it a try and say a simple “Hola!” Ask if they wouldn’t mind doing Spanish lessons in exchange for some other kind of service (e.g. English lessons).
It is not in vain that native Spanish speakers have a well-earned reputation of warmth, friendliness, and great sense of humor.
Don’t miss out on the chance to begin speakingSpanish; great times, great fun,and great friends await you in the Spanish-speaking world!
