How do I connect my Surround Sound when My TV doesn’t have HDMI imput?
Sorry I’m a noob… but I have a really nice 52″ Sony big screen tv. Its about 6 years old or so. I have my HD component cords hooked into it from my comcast cable box. I just recently bought 1000w samsung 5.1 surround sound that only has 1 component outlet and 1 aux outlet. My tv doesn’t have an HDMI imput. I have hooked up the sound from the cable box to the surround sound, and that works and sounds fine; but how do I play a DVD through the surround sound and able to show picture on my TV…or have my X-Box hooked in it as well, all at the same time?? If it is becuase my TV has no HDMI, am I just SOL?
You don’t need HDMI from your TV to your receiver to get sound.
There are three cables you can use from your TV
- RCA: Delivers stereo sound – a.k.a you won’t get full 5.1
- Coaxial: Similar to RCA but it is a single cable – delivers analog 5.1+
- Optical: Uses a TOSLINK audio cable to output to your receiver (Also 5.1)
They will all work, that way you can just get sound outputted from your TV via a single cable. However, RCA means you cannot get full advantage of your speakers, though I will probably guess that you have one of the above alternatives.
