Sixpence High
Your thoughts on these 90′s and early 00′s songs?

These songs/bands remind me of the care free days of being a little kid (born in 92). Anyone else share the same feeling.

New Radicals – You Get What You Give

Tal Bachman – She’s So High

Semisonic – Closing Time

Eve 6 – Here’s To The Night

Filter – Take a Picture

Barenaked Ladies – Pinch Me

Well, I can assure you that they don’t remind me of being a little kid.

They remind me of the 8 years I spent in Japan, which included the late 90′s. During that whole time, the only radio station I listened to much was Armed Forces Radio, which played a lot of top-40 and mainstream rock. Not my favorite type of music at all, but the only stuff in English.

Which was OK; I had my CD collection to keep me company, and I grew to like, even love some of the shamelessly commercial pop in the top-40.

So among those songs you named, I really liked “She’s So High” by one-hit wonder Tal Bachman, which has funny lyrics, a good self-depreciating vocal, and a good hook. “Tubthumper” is so moronic it is ingenious, once it got stuck in my head, there it stayed. “Take a Picture” is a hungover-sounding song I heard during a hangover; talk about fitting the mood. “Closing Time” is really kinda silly, but the sentiment is friendly. The New Radicals’ singer vaguely sounded like a young Mick Jagger, even if the music didn’t. Kinda catchy. Did you know the little girl on the show Archie Bunker’s Place (ask your dad) was in the New Radicals? I preferred Six Pence None The Richer’s Velvet Underground cover “There She Goes” to “KIss Me”, which seemed too girly and contrived, but a girlfriend once sang it to me in karaoke, and I changed my mind…
