How can I tell if my 2001-s, North Carolina State quarter is a clad proof or silver proof?
I just acquired this. When looking at it from the rim side and with the head facing upward, there is a copper colored ring at the top of the rim, going down almost to the bottom, followed by a silvercolor at the bottom. Does that tell you anything? Or is there another way to tell if it’s clad or silver?
If there is a copper color band that maybe can not be seen all the way around but can be seen, then it is a clad proof. The silver proof state quarters are made under the old pre 1965 silver standards, that is 90% silver. A clad state quarter weighs 5.67 grams and a silver one 6.25 grams.
