where is the mint mark on a 2011 silver eagle?
I just got one so i’m wondering or do they make it at only one mint and if so which one?
It’s minted at West Point, but there is no mint mark.
Prior to 2006, there was only one version of the uncirculated bullion Eagle. None carry a mint mark. Starting in 2006 and through 2008, there was an ‘uncirculated’ version struck for the collector market. These were produced on special ‘burnished’ planchets, at West Point, and carry the W mint mark. Production of the collector version was suspended for 2009 and 2010 (as was the Proof Eagle for 2009). There is supposed to be a burnished 2011-W issued later this year.
So what you have is the bullion 2011 coin.
Also, according to Coin World magazine, the San Francisco mint will be producing bullion Eagles with no mint mark. How anybody is going to know the difference once they’re in the marketplace remains to be seen. You just know that there will be dealers trying to take advantage of it.
