Scarce Year
What do you think of this 10 year old poem?

I wrote this poem about a week after Princess Diana died, and I just found it in the back of a notebook.

Sonnet to Princess Diana

That English rose had scarce begun to bloom
When first her simple beauty caught his eye,
The charming prince who would become her groom
As all the world, enchanted, watched and sighed.
Then from so shy and innocent a seed
There grew a flow’r so proud and confident,
But more than just a beauty queen, indeed;
Her life for others selflessly was spent.
Her deep compassion eased the heaviest woes;
She had it all, and all she gladly shared.
For this she’ll be forever loved by those
Who came in contact with this princess fair.
A rose as rare as she ‘tis hard to praise,
E’en if we sang of her for all our days.

I love it! It sounds so eloquent and regal…it’s perfect for a poem about princess diana
