well obviously they were’nt, but they borrowed their ideas.
so what did they inherit.
Orthodox Christianity & the concept of the Roman empire; the word “Tsar” comes from the Russian for “Caesar”. It’s not that they “borrowed” from the Byzantine, they basically inherited it. When Constantinople (the second Rome) fell in 1453 AD, they began to view Moscow as the “third” Rome.
