Rare Ore Node Spawns In Wow
There are several rare minerals that can be mined in World of Warcraft. They include: Silver, Gold, Truesilver, Khorium, and Titanium. Each of these veins or deposits has what is called a place holder.
A place holder works the same as it has in Everquest for NPCs and means exactly what it says. There is something or someone holding the place of another something or someone. When the placeholder dies there is a random calculation formula that kicks off to determine what the next spawn will be.
So for Silver, Gold, Truesilver, Khorium, and Adamantite that formula might be something like a 1% spawn rate. I have no idea what the real rate is for these ores that’s just hypothetical. So that means if you were to sit and kill or mine the same node 100 times that was a known placeholder for a rare mining deposit, every 100th time on average, that rare mineral would spawn. In other words, when a rare mineral place holder node respawns, there is a chance the rare mining ore will show up; whatever that chance may be.
Throughout World of Warcraft there are several minerals that are considered place holders for specific rare ores.
For Silver Ore, Tin
For Gold Ore, Iron
For Truesilver, Mithril
For Khorium, Fel Iron and Adamantite
For Titanium, Saronite
By mining where these common ores are you have a chance that you will run across one of the rare mining minerals. Sometimes you’ll notice that specific areas or a single node is spawning a rare mineral more frequently than others.
I’ve noticed this too, and the only answer I have is that not all common ore is actually a place holder. I’ve reasoned that only certain nodes are place holders, so if you find a rare ore, take note, because that might be where you find it again down the road while you’re out mining.
