How do you propose an Olympic sport?
Who would you have to propose a sport to be considered an Olympic sport? Is there a choosing committee?
Yes it’s a two step process as first the Olympic Programme Commission is responsible for reviewing and analyzing the programme of sports, disciplines and events. It is also responsible for developing recommendations on the principles and structure of the Olympic Programme for the Olympic Games.
#2 Executive Board is the choosing committee when it comes to what becomes an Olympic sport as they vote on whether or not a sport should be in the Olympics.
It was decide that for the London 2012 Olympics there will be only 26 sports.As you can see below the Executive Board voted on what sports should be included and they chose none as both Squash and Karate failed to get the required votes.

In 2009 the Executive Board will vote on 7 sports to see what 2 make the 2016 Olympics. A simple majority is all that’s needed. Sports up for a vote include Baseball, Softball, Rugby, Golf, Squash, Karate and Roller Sports.
The Olympic Programme Commission decided the above 7sports met the criteria and conditions for being a possible Olympic Sport.
This includes 1) Sports must have a international governing body that is in charhe of the sport2) Meets the universality requirement Summer sports 75 NCO’S over 4 continents for men and 40/3 for women. 25 for the winter sports.
3) Must have a world championship and ranked events.
4) In order for a support to be considered they must be in 100% compliance with World Anti-Doping Code.
