Mixed Media Artists And The Significance Of Art

Mixed Media Artists can be considered important members of society because of the art they create. The arts are effective channel for communication, a way to show ideas that are beyond the capability of words and a medium for cultural enlightenment. A person can go even further and reason that knowledge of the arts is an important foundation for educated citizenship in our increasingly complicated planet. The responses of artists to the still-horrifying events of 9/11 are but one particular reminder of the significant part that the arts play in exploring the emotional dimensions of experience, in shaping public discourse regarding significant issues as well as in making visions of the future, both for artists and their audiences. Out of this mindset, the arts are as necessary as the humanities, medicine and sciences on the goal of a wonderful public university.

What may be less apparent is the part of art-making as a mode of research. As in the sciences and other disciplines, those of us in the arts not just disseminate innovative methods and forms of knowledge, we aid to create them. By definition, the process of creating a work of art – a painting, a dance, a musical composition, an architectural design, a theater piece or film that is in need of filming locations – is from its inception a research project.

Students are requested to formulate an original response to a one of a kind field of inquiry and to “publish” their results not only in the form of research papers, but also through the mediums of performance and exhibition. Moreover, the samples of spectacular arts practice offered to students at UCLA by means of our museums and performing-arts program help to make a distinctive laboratory for the next generation of cultural innovators. The arts are medium of intellectual and ethical inquiry, one way of examining the ever-changing planet, of exploring the meaning of memory and custom, and of charting the inner, subjective surfaces of human experience. Much like the medical sciences are dedicated to extending and improving the quality of life, the arts help us to comprehend the significant reasons for that life, the more deeply values, visions and obligations that sustain our will to live. The study of the arts by its very nature challenges the boundary between concept and practice – between knowing about and knowing how.

The 1st people to understand how music works were the ancient Greeks. And this will fascinate you; the Greeks said that music and astronomy were two sides of the same coin. Astronomy was viewed as the study of associations between visible, permanent, external objects, and music was viewed as the study of connections between unseen, internal, hidden objects. Music features a way of finding the large, unseen moving pieces within our hearts and souls and helping us figure out the position of things within us. I’ll give you some examples of how this works.

Mixed Media Artists are much like musicians simply because of the beauty they create. One of the most profound musical compositions of all time is the Quartet for the End of Time written by French composer Olivier Messiaen in 1940. Messiaen was 31 years old when France joined the conflict against Nazi Germany. He was taken by the Germans in June of 1940, sent across Germany in a cattle car and locked up in a concentration camp.
