What did women ride in during the High Middle Ages and Renaissance period?
I’m doing some research for a book and I’m having difficulty finding answers to my question. During the time of the High Middle Ages (11th, 12th, and 13th centuries) and early Renaissance, did women wear trousers or dresses to ride in? I’m thinking more about the common woman, not nobility or royalty.
Common woman would not have ridden. Horses were expensive.
But a woman who would ride would wear a dress.
