Mexico Republic

Why did Mexico refuse to recognize Texas as an independent republic in the time of the Mexico-Texas war?
around 1830′s and the time of the Alamo, Goliad and Sam Houston.
Texans were allowed to settle in Mexico’s northern regions and soon english speaking settlers became the majority, the U.S. offered to buy the territory from Mexico but Mexico refused. Texans settlers then grew disillusioned with the Mexican government limits on them, rights and freedoms they have when in the U.S. Mexico saw Texas as a Provence of Mexico and the American settlers there as squatters or invaders. The declaration of an independent Texas was seen as an act of rebellion and stealing land from Mexico.
There was also that no clear border between Mexico and the U.S. at that time was set, which further confused it. This would come back later forcing the issue in the Mexican-American War in 1846. The U.S. recognized the border at the Rio Grande, Mexico saw it much further north.
So the war was still on.
The now famous General López de Santa Anna fought both wars, as well as won Mexico’s independence from Spain. Clearly he was no push over.
