Diamonds: Popular Engagement Rings
A diamond ring is still the most popular choice of engagement rings. Viewed as the symbol of love and commitment, diamond stones are beautiful, strong, and durable.
The practice of proposing using an engagement ring was introduced by Archduke Maxmillian who gave a diamond ring to Mary of Burgundy in 1477. After this proposal, it has followed by other wealthy and famous men from other countries and has become a tradition. They began to asking their beloved’s hand for marriage with an elegant and expensive gem.
A few centuries after the 15th century’s Archduke Maxmillian’s proposal, diamond rings were only restricted to noble families. In 1870, diamond mines were discovered in South Africa, which increased the supplies of diamonds, thus making diamonds accessible and more affordable. Sales of diamonds became widespread in Europe and the United States.
The United States became the main marketplace for diamonds in the 1930s. Diamond engagement rings had always been a popular choice in the United States. The Americans believed that diamonds last forever. Diamonds were passed on from generation to generation. To this day, sales of diamond rings continue to flourish at jewelry stores in Indianapolis.

For example, the word “dearest” was spelled out in a ring containing different gemstones like a diamond, emerald, sapphire, ruby, and turquoise.
