Kong Five

Can a regular Kong toy be used with a puppy?
I bought a normal Kong toy (size L) and then when I got home I read the brochure (conveniently hidden inside the package). It said that there was a special “Puppy Kong” toy. Annoying! Our dog is a large Lab mix who is five months old. He chews a lot. Occasionally there is a teeny bit of blood on something after he chews.
Can I give him the toy? What should I put in it? Is it necessary to freeze it prior to giving it to the dog?
Your dog will be fine. I never bought my dog a special puppy toy. Most of them are just marketing schemes to get more money from you. The puppy one costs less to make, is a lot smaller and costs more….
You said your lab mix is 5 months old, and chewing a lot with a little blood coming out. Sounds like you have a puppy who’s teething!
The large kong toy should be just fine with him. He won’t break it, and it’ll get him through teething.
So go ahead and give him the toy. Put peanut butter, treats (biscuits), and cheese in there. It’s not necessary to freeze it prior to giving to your dog, the stuffing inside it just lasts longer and the toy will be cold and soothing to a teething puppy.
Good luck!
