WHEN CO IE EAST INDIA ) TRIED TO AGIANST THE BRITISH IMPROER AND ACCEPT THE DECIMAL UNIT
Manish, I have no knowledge of any copper 20 paise coin struck under the British East India Company(EIC) or under any of its three established presidencies of Bengal, Bombay and Madras. There wasn’t any dated 1835, and in fact there wasn’t such a denomination issued in the whole of India until 1968 by the current Republic. If you’re referring to the EIC 1/4 Anna(1 pice), then it’s valued at US$1 to $2 in average circulated condition. Else if it’s a 1/2 Anna(the largest denomination 1835-dated copper coin), then the value is US$2 to $4 in the same condition. As for the historical significance part, I’m not aware of the incidents mentioned. The EIC did handover the control of the government to the British crown as a result of the 1857-58 Sepoy Mutiny, and had been issuing fractional(not decimal) units of currency all along until the handover. It went out of existence in 1873.
