Doctrine Man Continues Custom Of Military Services Humor
”Doctrine Man” is a comic superhero whose crusade against the military services establishment is spreading via Facebook. U.S. military services personnel throughout the world follow Doctrine Man’s exploits. The strip has even been seen posted on bulletin boards at the Pentagon. The military services has long used laughter to cope with military services doctrine and hardship and Doctrine Man updates are a 21st century extension of that custom.

Last summer Doctrine Man appeared on Facebook, created by an Army offer.The nameless officer who created doctrine man had been trying to find a way to let out his irritation from working with individuals who, “just didn’t get it,” as outlined by the new York Times. If he had an experience relating to military doctrine, he turns it into a comic and posts it on his website, but he leaves the people really involved anonymous. Other military officers who have ran into his site and were intrigued have started dialogues with him via private e-mails. His superiors do receive any viable info that is received from his site and use it how they need to.

The message of Doctrine Man comic strips is what is very important not the poorly drawn stick figures. “Able to leap useless acronyms with a single bound, faster than a lumbering field manual, more powerful than a cheese enchilada in a staff huddle,” is the saying used to describe the hero in this comic. Making the war zone feel like home, a soldier wearing a hula shirt to combat, and an officer selecting somebody for a special operation by simply throwing a book at the first soldier who walks by; are just a few of the situations you may run into with the Doctrine Man comic strip.
Making light of severe situations
There have been many instances of people with jobs they don’t enjoy turning it to humor, and Doctrine Man just follows the pattern. Bill Mauldin for instance made Willie and Joe cartoons during World War II when in Europe. Some have even turned into big screen and TV hits such as, Joseph Heller’s “Catch-22” and Richard Hooker’s “MASH”. Some expect Doctrine Man to follow in the footsteps of “Beetle Bailey” (1950) and be carried on after its creator stops the work.
