Activity Holidays 101 : Different Types
Activity holiday formats are the focus of this installment of our guide to activity holidays.
There are all kinds of activity holidays with a large variety that will be right for anyone. There is bicycling, winter-time, wilderness, special interest, and of course thrill-seeking.
Thrill-seeking trips are some of the most popular available and include activities such as white water rafting, caving and rock climbing. There are plenty of multi-activity holidays where you can spend a day or two doing each until moving on or you can just stick with one. Go out and experience exciting new things and challenge yourself, this is the ideal way.
Have a great adventure by going into various locales like jungles, deserts, plateaus, mountains and tundra with our great wilderness holidays. All seven continents can be visited, with the Sahara, Namib and Gobi deserts, the jungles of South and Central America, Northern India and Central Africa, the great mountain ranges of The Andes, Alps, Atlas, Himalaya and Rockies, the Tibetan plateau, the Antarctic and the Outback of Australia, being popular with adventurous travelers. Camping, trekking, learning skills of survival, cultural lessons, learning of various wildlife are all parts of these type of trips.
Ski cross country and downhill, go snowboarding, you can even go with the lesser tried ones such as dog sledding or snow mobiling. These are often offered in more unusual and unspoiled locations than you would normally see them advertised and allow you to escape the crowds that you would normally come across.
Go biking in the mountains on great expeditions, or perhaps a gentle flat area is more to your liking, both are possible on bike holidays. These tend to be graded according to their intensity, with the percentage of on and off-road riding, and vehicle support indicated on the website or brochure.
There are also plenty of other holidays that will take a commitment to one specialized subject, activity, or skill. Some of these will be intense like yoga or archaeology, while others, such as photography and language learning are great for the mind. You will learn a great deal about what ever subject you choose with the help of a great guide who specializes in that field.
