Germany Nazi
Why were Austrians called to fight for Nazi Germany?

I understand in WW2, Austrians were enlisted to fight for Nazi Germany. They also donned the Nazi uniform.

Why were they called to fight for Nazi Germany? Weren’t they Austrians and not Germans?

Do they have the heart and mindset to fight for a foreign country? How could Nazi Germany have trusted them and made them fight for them?

Ok to give you a big answer to fully explain. Yes Hitler was from austria. His original plan was to unite all German speaking nations. Austria Hungary are two that he annexed without starting a war as was his retaking of Alsaince Lorraine. These countries came to Germany willingly either because they used to be a part of Germany or because they considered themselves German. The reason they fought for Germany even though they were called Austrian was because they considered themselves part of Germany and so did Germany. there were Nazi parades in the streets when Austria was annexed and some of Hitlers last stronghold were in Austria. As a further footnote on Germany’s stability remember that Germany had not been a country long only since the late 1800 when Prussia and some other countries united into Germany. The Germans made many people fight for them in their ODST battallions and many of these even fought against the United States on D’day including Polish and Russian troops but Austrians were not forced they willingly joined.
