Parenting Little Kids Is A Challenge
Sometimes it is a toss-up when deciding whose job is more challenging, being a kid or being a parent. Parenting little kids means different things to different parents but the one commonality among all parents is being a positive role model. Parents are the first role models kids see and from a very early age, they will mimic their behavior. Their impressionable minds will absorb everything a parent does and says so if the kid’s verbal’s and actions are on the good side of the behavior line, a positive influence is being made.
Kids need continuity and sometimes repetition in order to learn. Once the lesson is learned it will usually stick when reinforced with positive glue. Kids are kids, and a lot of times has to hear the same message multiple times before they get it. It is not because kids are being stubborn or trying to be difficult, although that is the ulterior motive of some kids; it is because they are kids and that what kids do sometimes. Parenting kids mean not confusing them with conflicting behavior. If the parent says one thing but does something else, the kids will not know what is acceptable and what is not acceptable.
The best way to describe kids is they are like little sponges. They will absorb and soak up everything around them whether the parents think the kids are paying attention or not. Kids will absorb the environment around them. If they live within a negative environment, they will learn that behavior. If they see the lack of respect, rude and crude behavior, those are the traits they will display. If they see respect for one another and a loving and positive attitude, that is what the kids will become.
Parents should reinforce good behavior with some focused attention on the positive. An eye must be kept on the kids to keep them on the straight and narrow but the good kids need attention to. Positive attention will result in positive behavior. The kids will become what they are told they are. Parenting kids is demonstrating beyond a shadow of a doubt good will win out over evil every time.
One all important lessons kids need to learn is all actions result in a consequence. Parenting little kids means not just making threats but setting a boundary and a consequence. The consequence has to be reasonable and carried out if necessary. That is the only way kids will stop and think before doing something. If there is only a threat of discipline kids will get the upper hand every time and because they know they will get away with whatever it is they want to do.
Parenting little kids means admitting when you, the parent are wrong. As a parent, errors in judgment may occur. Parents are not perfect just like kids are not perfect. Kids have the ability to push mom and dad’s buttons like nobody’s business sometimes. Sometimes mom and dad push back and say or do something that is a wee bit out of line. The best thing to do is admit the error and move on. That is good thing to teach the kids.
