Double Struck
How does Double Strike work in Magic: the Gathering?

I’ve recently started playing MtG and me and my friends don’t really know if double strike allows us, when we don’t block with a creature, to deal twice the damage to the opponent

Double Strike really isn’t that complicated.

In each combat phase, there is a First Strike Damage step and a Normal Damage combat step. Wile most creatures deal damage in the Normal Damage step, and First Strike creatures deal damage in the First Strike Damage step, Double Strike creatures deal damage in both the First Strike Damage step and the Normal Damage step.

So for an example, we will use the Marisi Twinclaws, a 2/4 Double Strike creature. if it attacks and is unblocked, it deals 2 First Strike damage to the opposing player and 2 Normal damage to the opposing player. If blocked by a 5/3 First Strike, it will deal 2 damage to that creature, but the 5 First Strike damage will kill the Twinclaws before it can deal the normal damage. If blocked by a 1/1, it kills the 1/1 with its 2 First Strike Damage, but is still considered blocked, so does no damage with the Normal Damage (unless it has been given Trample somehow).
