How can I buy current American gold coins without dealing with middleman?
If your interest in in gold as an investment, then buy GLD, a exchange traded fund holding shares of companies that do well when the price of gold goes up.
If your interest is that of a coin collector, then stick to a reputable dealer unless you have the expertise to indentify and assess the value of the coin.
Gold, in general, is a lousy investment. Buy af index mutual fund like SPY for better long-term returns.
