Why do we care so much about Israel and Palestine ?
There are many countries around the world where major atrocities are taking place and they have to compete like crazy to get attention , not so Israel and Palestine . Why ? Why all the coverage ? I mean Ruanda had to suffer hundreds of thousands of deaths before it made headline news but Israel and Palestine are never out of it ! Why ? Is thewre something very peculiar about Israel ? Why isnt there so much attention given to Libya run by a megalomaniac or the problems in the congo or lack of democracy in Egypt or even Chinas persecution of Tibet ? I don;t get it why are we so interested in the internal affairs of Israel ?
There’s numerous reasons for it. Let me name the 2 main ones in my opinion:
Both Jewish people and anti-semitic people take extra interest in the situation, and those are spread all over the world.
Another reason is that out of the all the major conflict areas in the world, Israel is the only democratic one. So while all the other areas prevent reporters from showing both sides, reporters in Israel are given a free hand to tell all the tales they wish to tell, even if it’s biased against Israel for whatever reasons. Reporters then abuse this right to show even things like retaliation from Israel’s side to Hamas’ repeated attacks, as though Israel was the aggressor. Sad, but true.
