How do I find out how many coins were minted?
I just purchased a coin from the Perth mint in AU, I checked their website and they are no longer making the coin, so how do I find out how many were minted? Is there a website anyone could recommend? It’s the 2010 Lunar Tiger 5oz. All I’ve been able to find is that there was no limit on it’s minting. But since it’s not being minted any longer, there should be a final count, right?
The only place that knows the mintage is the mint that struck it. Since this is early 2010 maybe the mint has stopped making them for now. There maybe enough on hand at the moment, if all of a sudden they get a lot of orders they may strike more. Mintage figures on a coin that is made only for a short time may not be released until the end of their minting year. The US mint releases usually the mintage figures for circulating coinage each month but may no do that for a commemorative coin until the end of the year. You can not purchase a coin from the mint in AU it has to be mint state. Most mints do not sell already circulated coins. You coin wold never be used as money anyway. You will just have to wait until the mint releases the figure.
