im almost 16 and was wondering if your parents could take your youth allowance or do i have a choice?

The CentreLink “Youth Allowance” is usually paid into your parents account, it is to be used to feed, clothe and educate/care for you while you are their responsibility. It is calculated based on your parents income and your income. There is no requirement for your parents to pay you any of the allowance, as it is assumed to be spent by them in caring for you.
If you feel your parents are not caring for you, you can get the allowance paid into your account (though it is a hard and long process to go down). You can also become independent and then no longer have to take into account your parents income in calculating your Youth Allowance.
To become independent, you will need to prove you can not live at home (due to mental or physical fears, or for work/education requirements), turn 22 years old, or prove you are independent by working for 18 months in 24 months. If you do any of these you will then be paid the allowance directly to you.
