What is a diction choice and what is a syntactical arrangement?
I have to do a summer project and my teacher is retarded and didn’t give use good examples or explain much to us about what we are doing, she wants us to take notes on how the writers wrote what they did, and she wants us to identify diction choice and syntactical arrangement. What are they? I looked on Google but can’t find any useful info.
‘Diction choice’ refers to the words that are used.
‘Syntactical arrangement’ refers to the manner in which the words are placed.
For example-
“The dog jumped”
Pretty basic, right? Small words in an easy Subject -Verb arrangement.
Now-
“Into the air, the agile canine vaulted.”
Note the difference in the words used. That is ‘diction’.
Also, the sentence order was changed, which is the syntactical arrangement.
Both sentences describe the same event, but by changing diction and syntax, you change the feel of the description.
