Find Out About 50Cent

6th of July 1975 in South Jamaica, Queens is when and where 50Cent aka Curtis Jackson was born.

He was born to a 15 year old Sabrina and he doesn’t know whom his father is and has no ambition to ever find him.

His mum was a crack dealer and in 1988 at the age of 25 she was murdered and her body wasn’t discovered until a few days after her murder.

During the period in which she was murdered Jackson was staying at his grandparents like he normally did and her disappearance wasn’t out of the ordinary as she would normally be gone for days.

Curtis then moved in with his grandparents.

It was at the age of twelve that he started dealing drugs during the 1980s crack epidemic.

He sold drugs so he could provide for himself and buy new clothes and trainers, as he didn’t want to ask his grandparents for them, as money was tight as they had at least 10 kids to provide for.

His family knew nothing about him dealing drugs as he told them he attended after school programmes.

They finally found out though when Jackson made a mistake and ended up bringing drugs into school, which set of the metal detectors.

He was so embarrassed that he got caught that he decided from then on to be open about the fact that he sold drugs.

The young hustler was making a name for himself on the streets and because of this he caught the attention of the local police.

It was on June 29th 1994 that the police arrested him after he was caught trying to sell drugs to an undercover police officer.

3 weeks later they raided his home and found drugs and a gun.

He was to be sentenced to nine years in prison but his attorney managed to get him 6 months in a boot camp.

After being released from boot camp he started dealing again but the streets had become tougher so he decided to focus his attention on rapping.

In 1996 a friend introduced him to Jam Master Jay who taught him how to write choruses, structure songs, count bars, and make a record.

50′s popularity started to increase after his single “How To Rob” become popular in the underground. Apparently he wrote the song in half an hour while in a car on the way to a studio.

On May 24th 2000 in South Jamaica, Queens outside his grandmothers house he was shot nine times.

Luckily he managed to survive and he spent thirteen days in the hospital.

While in the hospital Colombia Records who he signed a deal with dropped him and he was blacklisted in the recording industry due to the negative attention surrounding him.

After coming out of hospital it took him 5 months to fully recover.

He wanted to get back to making a name for himself in the music world but since nobody would allow him to record in there studio he went to Canada.

In Canada he recorded over thirty-four songs for mixtapes, which he used to increase his reputation.

Eventually Eminem managed to get a hold of one of his mixtapes and he liked what he heard so he flew 50 over to Los Angeles and he got him signed a $1 million record deal.
