Who is on this French 20 Centimes?
I have a 20 Centimes French coin from 1995. Who is the lady on the front of this coin? It is just a portrait with her facing to the left. Any other interesting info about this coin other than “it’s worthless”?
Sounds like it’s “Marianne,” who’s sort of the official symbol for France. Certainly not worthless to a collector – they stopped minting francs (and therefore centimes) at the end of the 20th Century when the European Union switched to Euros. The franc used to be worth about $0.20 or $0.25, so this coin would have had a face value of about a nickel. I’d keep it since they’re not making any more of them.
