Is the TU-154M a safe aircraft?
I am going to be flying with Yakutia Airlines to Yakutsk, Russia this summer on the TU-154M aircraft and I was wondering if it was a safe aircraft? I know its an old, CCCP-era aircraft that isn’t used very much any more, so the safety of it sort of worried me.
Good point, Yakutia seems to have a fairly good safety record. And the TU-154 has had quite a few incidents in the recent years, 6 in the last 2 years!
Though an old airplane it should be safe to fly on. As long as it is well maintained you should be fine. Any plane can crash new or old and it is also the skill and performance of the pilot and co-pilot that can make a flight good or bad. I think you should be fine.
