Receive A Better Understanding Of Exactly What A Challenge Coin Is And Precisely What Makes Them So Wonderful

While in World War I bronze coins as well as custom military badges were created for the members of a squadron of pilots. One of the people of the voluntary squadron had some bronze challenge coins made with the insignia of the squadron imprinted onto it. Everyone in the squadron carried this coin as identification of the squadron. These coins were termed challenge coins. One particular squadron member happened to get shot down by the Germans. Once the Germans uncovered this man, they took most of his I . d ., excluding the leather pouch he that held the challenge coin.

At some point the Germans took this pilot to the front in France, where there was a bombardment that night. He escaped while this occuring. He happened upon some Frenchmen, who had been having challenges with saboteurs. They suspected him of being a spy and were about to execute him, since he’d no identification papers on him. Then they discovered the leather pouch on his neck with the Challenge Coin inside it. The Frenchmen recognized this coin and it is squadron insignia and didn’t kill him, but rather gave him a bottle of wine.

Following this experience, everybody in this squadron carried this coin on their person, no exceptions. It’s thought to be excellent luck to have this Challenge Coin on their person and very bad luck to not own it. This particular pilot discovered that this coin had really life altering results. He’d have died if he had not have been wearing this coin in his pouch. It must have been quite a story that he delivered back to his fellow squadron members. The Challenge Coin acquired a very large reputation in the years to come.

Challenge coins remain to be well known to this day. Many people are expected to put on their coin all the time. Whenever somebody challenges an individual, say in a bar on a military base, the challenged needs to display his Challenge Coin. If he lacks his on him, he has to purchase the challenger and his pals a drink. If the challenged demonstrates the one that is doing the challenging a Challenge Coin, then that person must purchase the challenged a glass or two along with his friends. It’s simply proper protocol.

Challenge Coins became a custom throughout the war in addition to following the war. It had been a tradition for all squadron member to carry this coin. Once the surviving members met up for reunions, they all carried their coins.

Having no clothes on was not any excuse either for not having your coin within an arm’s distance. So if you went to hit the sack, you best keep the coin at your fingertips in case somebody challenges you.

If you carry your coin on a chain or inside of a bag, like the leather pouch, it is regarded as a coin. If you fasten a coin to a belt, it’s a belt buckle. So people are very particular as to how you carry your coin.
