How was the abolition of the slave trade in the British Empire accomplished?
Through the Slave Trade Act of 1807.An aboloistionist movement, founded in 1787, brought considerable moral pressure to bear on MPs which, allied with other reasons, led to the bill’s passing both Houses of parliament.
As the slaves had to be transported from Africa, the Royal Navy enforced the ban;British owned slave ships previously protected by the Royal Navy were now instead intercepted, the slaves freed and the captains of the ships prosecuted.
