Britain Trade

How did trade between Britain and China lead to the Opium War?
I really need help cause History is my WORST subject ! PLEASE!!!!!
Okay, I’ll try and explain it the best way I can. Basically China was an incredibly traditional country. Because of their location near Gaul and the ocean, China developed to believe it was the center of the intelligent world and over time that led to their refusal to trade or mingle with any other culture or country. You have to consider that the ruler often thought that he was a type of god, literally. They referred to their country as the Middle Kingdom, “middle” implying the center. That was a problem for Britain because they sought China’s fine silks and exotic goods for their upper class who thought them to be a symbol of their status and wealth. They were originally getting these goods through the Silk Road which was the very profitable trade route through Europe to China but that changed when China agreed to some trade but it was still very strained. Now instead of trading through the Silk Road, the British and European countries were trading through merchant ships and those merchants who were establish in Britain, India, etc. Britain was hungry for the amount of money it could make if it simply could trade with China openly. It’s important to remember that Britain also was selling and sending goods to American merchants. This was one of the the key problems that started the Opium wars. Politics was another factor but it really went hand-in-hand with China’s issues with trade. (It’s important to remember that their was actual trade but it was highly strained,) Since they were having such problems with trading, Britain and American merchants decided that they could make some profit off of smuggling opium from Bengal to China through the Chinese who were willing to do business. When the opium arrived from Bengal, it would be distributed by China’s own people. When the Dao Guang Emperor finally saw the sheer number of addicts, which was staggering, and the dwindling amount of taxes being collect, he took siege to his own people. They were ordered to stop trade, distributing and made to destroy any opium they already had. He demanded that British and American merchants sell of their stocks to the Chinese and stop the import of opium immediately. immediately, not being happy with this, instead took revenge by sending their occupying forces from India to lay siege to the coast destroying many cities including Hong Kong. That is about it. I’m sure there is more but I don’t remember much else.
