Can anyone tell me about a basic life in Belgium?
I’m doing a project on the French parts of Belgium (Belgique), and my job is to concentrate on the culture of the country. Once again, the FRENCH part, not dutch please.
Nothing about food or holidays or things like that, but the actual practical life you don’t read about in books?
-School, how does that work?
-Hobbies? The largest sport? Do girls play? Is it competitive? etc.
-Drinking age? Voting age? Liberal, conservative? Is the atmosphere casual on things like marijuana, like it a lot of Europe?
-Is it valued more, to be a doctor? Or a lawyer? Common dream jobs? etc.
And anything else that you would think would be helpful. Thankssomuch.
please add to your project the money transfer from Flanders to Wallonia (french part)
IMO it is crucial to implement it into your project because it is sad but it is a very important subject here in Belgium…
Every year the flemish pays a crap load of money to our southern community (wallonia)
School : school system is said to be free but yeah.. It is not that free 
school trips, school books,… it costs money you know (not that much though!!)
Hobbies : Major hobby-sport : Football (Soccer in US) after soccer you have Tennis, Basketball, swimming, volleyball ..
yes girls play sports! and yes it is competitive
Drinking age 16 years old (this is true !!!)
Some clubs however do not let you in if you are a minor (below 18 years old) but in any regular café (pub) you can order alcohol at the age of 16
But driving age is 18 years
Voting age 18 years old
Liberal or conservative? Belgium is much more ‘conservative then US) it has a conservative way in economics like Germany and France. Although Flanders is more liberal… (wallonia so french part for your project is more conservative I guess…)
Marijuana is not common in Europe !!! it really isn’t allowed even in The Netherlands it isn’t allowed except in some coffeeshops.
So in Belgium it is illegal
Yes it is valued to be a doctor but nowadays surgeons are higher valued then doctors. Lawyer is high valued too. Both requires university
Common dream jobs in wallonia : being lazy and depend on our healthcare system and use our welfare state…

So I would say dream job : hmm, might be lawyer or doctor as you stated
Wallonia depends on Flanders because wallonia is rather poor comparred to other EU states… Flanders in the contrary is very rich so Belgium is one of the richer EU nations… Scandinavian countries still has higher welfare due to Wallonia being part of belgium
But my judgement might be pro Flanders…
