Bank Building
Why is the US Bank Tower the tallest building in Los Angeles ?

The U.S. Bank Tower is only 318m. I know Los Angeles is in a major active seismic region and the US Bank Tower’s structure is designed to resist an earthquake of 8.3 on the Richter scale, but so is the Taipei 101 in Taiwan. Now the Taipei 101, at 449.2m, is the tallest completed building in the world. Is it that Los Angeles downtown doesn’t have as many important businesses as Taipei or Chicago, which has a few buildings taller than 318m?

We simply do not need a taller building. I am not even sure that the Bank Tower is filled to capacity.

You have to remember that LA is very spread out. We have “downtowns” in many areas of LA such as Pasadena, Glendale, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Burbank, Long Beach, Century City, and Westwood.

All these places have many high rise buildings which take away for the need of many super skyscrapers out here. If you put all these places in downtown LA then it would look like NYC.
