Are Austria and Switzerland very similar destinations for a holiday?
I am planning to take a vacation for 2 weeks in April 2010. I want to go to London for 3-4 days and then proceed to Austria and Switzerland from there for about 5 days each. Me and my wife love the mountains and scenic beauty and the cold and thats why we are looking at Austria and Switzerland. I want to do London to break the monotony and enjoy pubbing clubbing shopping etc there. I have the following questions:
1. Does this sound like a good plan? Any suggestions to make it better
2. Are Austria and Switzerland very similar destinations for a holiday? If yes, then which country should I drop from these two?
3. What are the best places to visit in Austria and Switzerland?
Sounds like a great trip to me!! The weather in London during April can be a little unsettled however, but if a little rain doesn’t put you off, then you’ll have an excellent time there. Be sure to check out all the special up and coming events on http://www.timeout.com/london/
In terms of Austria and Switzerland, I would say that there are some similarities and some differences between the two contries. Switzerland has many influences from it’s bordering countries (Germany, France, Italy, Austria) as does Austria (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia and Italy). The culture, lifestyle, food, language and buildings are all influence by the neighbouring countries in many ways. What’s more, in both these countries there are vast differences from town to town. Both are equally beautiful and if you can visit both, I would thoroughly recommend it, but if you have to choose one, then I’d say Switzerland is absolutely breath-taking!
Actually, have you ever considered going to a centre point, which you can venture to the different countires from?
Lake Constance (German: Bodensee) is one of Europe’s biggest lakes and is on the Rhine at the northern foot of the Alps, and is situated in Germany, Switzerland and Austria near the Alps. Specifically, its shorelines lie in the German federal-states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, the Austrian federal-state of Vorarlberg, and the Swiss cantons of Thurgau and St. Gallen.
From here you can visit all three countries and enjoy one of the most beautiful places by the Alps. It has a fantastic climate during this time of year, amazing flowers, wonderful restaurants and breath-taking views. There is lots to do there too. Biking, hiking, ski-ing, climbing , plus soak up all the scenic beautify. Very romantic. You can easily hire a cabin there or take a room in one of there gorgeous and quaint hotels.
I think a must see for those wanting a taste of the Alps, but who are unsure of where is best. In my opinon, one of the most beautiful places in Europe
