Troy Accessories For AR15 Rifles
The AR 15 platform lends itself to customization as no other other rifle in history. The AR15 accessory and replacement part market is huge. One of the leading companies producing AR15 upgrades is Troy Industries. Troy are one of the biggest OEM suppliers to the AR15 rifle industry.
One of the things Troy are best known for is their range of back up iron sights, primarily for the AR, but commonly used on other rifles – especially those with full length Picatinny Rails. Machined from aluminium and secured with stainless steel fixings, Troy sights are designed to withstand use in harsh environments. The entire range of Troy Battle Sights is produced in a Type III black or matte earth anodized finish. They follow the A1 pattern in having an L-shaped flip-up aperture assembly with large and small apertures. The large aperture is a battle sight set to 300 meters and the small aperture caters for longer engagements at 500 meters. A1 adjustments are used for the sights, this using a bullet tip or coin for the rearsight and a GI or Troy adjuster tool for the front sight post. Clicks are 0.5 MoA.
For those who want an instant transition between optical and iron sights, Troy make non folding fore and rear sight units. You have the choice of M16 type foresight ears or an HK/AK type open circle which can be used as a fast centering foresight element in CQB. Standard and reduced height versions are made to allow for direct gas or gas piston rifle usage – they both fold down to only 0.460″ high. Gas block versions of the front sights are also available. Troy folding BUIS are very sleek when folded, lacking levers or other protrusions and lock in either up or down position with two very robust spring detent balls. The rearsights come with either a standard round aperture or ‘Di-optic’ Aperture (DOA) which has a diamond shaped aperture with a white line extending from each corner for long range shooting and an open topped aperture with a single white horizontal line for close range. This makes for more rapid and precise shooting. All of the folding sights can be supplied with tritium dots – two on the rear and one on the front – for battery and electronic free night shooting.
Troy set out to make a quad rail system that would be free-floating, easy to mount and would provide an unbroken length of MIL STD 1913 Picatinny rail incorporating the rifles existing receiver rail and avoiding the use of a heavy cantilever set-up. Whilst non free floating versions are available and can be mounted in seconds, the free floating versions clamp around the barrel nut, making the joint even stronger and enhancing accuracy. The Troy AR quad rail is produced in various lengths for different length gas systems. Some of these quad rails need a low profile gas block whilst others have an opening to take the factory front sight. Fitting is made easy by two piece design and a very solid four bolt clamping arrangement. Both the units themselves and lenghts of cover are available in the usual black and earth colors. The unit has large holes to reduce its weight and disperse heat and the slots are alphanumerically coded in white so that you can replace accessories in the slots they were removed from.
Vertical foregrips have had a recent resurgence of popularity with the world’s militaries. Fore-grips allow far better control than horizontal fore-ends, especially in fast moving action. The Troy Combat Grip is a very rugged and versatile unit. Movement is prevented by a stainless steel locking bar and front and back cross slot locking bars. It can be set-up in full length or reduced length configuration and acts as sealed storage for small components sealed by an O-ring. Black and matte earth finishes are again offered. A knurled surface provides for good grip in the wet.
